LEONEL VILLA-CABALLERO M.D, Ph.D., FACP

Dr. Villa-Caballero is a physician and researcher in clinical research. He has a background in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology-Metabolism and Public Health. He has worked as investigator and co-investigator in research studies in the United States and Mexico. He completed postdoctoral studies at the Family and Preventive Medicine and California Institute of Technology (Cal IT2) University of California, San Diego (UCSD). His interests are in diabetes, obesity and physical activity, particularly in using culturally appropriate technological interventions for English and Spanish-speaking Latinos living in the United States. He has been sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and was a co-investigator at the Hispanic Study of Latinos (SOL study). Dr. Villa-Caballero has served as advisorĀ  for pharmaceutical companies in the areas of diabetes, obesity and cultural competency. He is currently the director of the Clinical Trials Program for Latin America for UCSD Extension.
